BODYLINE SCAM

Sun Nov 15, 2009, 10:53 AM
I just read about this in a journal of an account I watch, and at the beginning, it sounds like a great opportunity that I would love to take! Dressing up in gothic, lolita, and cosplay, and getting to be a model, in Japan!!!
But there's a heavy warning about this little competition right now going on.

-----------------------------------
COPIED FROM maeoneechan

bodyline ( [link] ) is a great place to buy cheap lolita and cosplay stuff, and I'm sure some of you have heard of it. However, they're holding a modeling contest right now with a pretty shiny prize, and I'm sure that it would appeal to a LOT of you.

HOWEVER. IT IS A SCAM.

Please read on. I'm posting this because I honestly care about a lot of you guys, and don't want to see or hear of ANYONE getting hurt by this.

During the previous bodyline modeling contest, one girl from livejournal won and was accepted to go to Japan. I’ve spoken to her on MSN, and she told me a lot about the contest that she didn’t say online, because she’s afraid. When she got to Japan, Mr. Yan (the owner of bodyline) was very creepy to her; trying to touch her, trying to show off to her, even trying to get her to come back to hotels with him. After her photos were taken and she was preparing to go back home, Mr. Yan called the girl and told her he was in love with her. He asked her to marry him, and to stay in Japan. When the girl said no, Mr. Yan said “you don’t have to be like a real wife. You can have boyfriends, but you have to let me have sex with you.” Mr. Yan is a grown man, probably in his late 40’s. This girl is 18.

Bodyline is not looking for models. Bodyline is holding a worldwide search so that the owner can have a foreign sex toy.

The girl said no, and went back to her country. Mr. Yan called the girl’s friend, who went to Japan with her, and told her that the girl is now required to pay for the airfare and for the hotel she stayed in, even though this was part of winning the contest, AND they would still be using her pictures. It was like she never won anything at all, and instead lost a huge amount of money. He said that he was going to open another modeling contest in November, saying he’d find “a cuter, better, younger wife” for himself. That same day, he uploaded a video of himself kicking in a mirror as part of a promotion for the sale, which was called “Mr. Yan furious sale.” To the community, this was hilarious, but to the girl it was terrifying.

This girl is honestly terrified, now, because she told me that Mr. Yan knows where she works (even though she’s in a different country), and is worried he’ll come after her. She refuses to post her name on the forum, and in respect of her I will not give her name either, but rest assured she is a real person. She’s scared to the point of worrying that Mr. Yan will see her posts, or that he’ll come looking for her. While I really doubt he’ll go after her, she’s going to have to deal with this fear for a long time.

The worst part of it is that girls are still joining, without knowing it’s a scam.

This is not your dream job, sadly; it’s also not a free way to get to Japan. IT IS A SCAM, and worse than that, it’s a sex scam. I really hate to say this to you guys, because I know it must be disappointing; believe me, my friend and I have been taking nice pictures for six months waiting for this contest to happen, and hearing it’s a hoax is really depressing.

but please, for your own safety, DO NOT JOIN THIS CONTEST!!
-----------------------------------

I know there are girls out there that dream of going to Japan, dream of going back into modeling, or becoming a model, like me, but please, for your safety, take this girl's story into account; do not enter into this competition.

It's an event held by the Nan Desu Kan staff. I assume it's in the spirit of the convention, sort of a mini-event for those who love the convention and want more. This is the first year for it, so I'm not really sure what exactly it is, or how much fun it's going to be, though given the awesome times I have at the convention every year I hold high expectations. The forum tells you to pick an anime character and dress as if you were that character in formal wear - prom dresses, tuxes, it's a Black-tie affair, no jeans. The second link I gave you should explain it better than I can. :)

ah, for some reason the notification only showed me half of the first post, so i only saw the first link and nothing else. a black-tie event? great... i wouldn't be able to make it either way, i don't have anything that would really work... i have a bunch of formal dresses, but... i don't see any of the characters i know or cosplay dress in any of the ones i have...

so? I'm going in a slinky turquoise dress I wore to a high school Valentine's dance. I'm debating whether or not to bring my ears and tail along (since the tail uses a safety pin and I don't want to poke holes in my dress - it was a bit pricey). The only thing I've got going for me anime wise is that my hair will be white. That's it.

If the only reason you have for not going is that you've never seen an anime character in a dress you own, then I'd rethink skipping out. :)
After all, it's not a requirement to be in cosplay, just that you not be wearing jeans and a corset :P

AND (I assume you live in the Nan Desu Kan area) dresses are fairly easy to harmlessly mod which I am more than willing to help with if you'd like. We can hold a craft night type thing with me, you, and thevalkerie. It should be fun times. :D
